Hey everyone! Gracie here, reporting live (well, sort of) from the Kiwi Connections corner of the Kaikohe A&P Show! This year, we did what we do best—jumped in last minute, entered all the things, and had a blast doing it. Despite the cloudy skies on January 18, 2025, the day was packed with laughs, lessons, and even a shiny trophy moment.
Yep, that’s right—I won the Green Footed Kiwi Cup (again- but don't let Milly hear I said that!). Winning the most points prize for the second time was extra special since we donated that trophy. Nothing like celebrating with your own cup, right? But it wasn’t just about the wins. Here’s what we learned along the way:
1. Kindness is Always in Season
The show taught us that even the smallest acts of kindness—like sharing supplies, helping others navigate the entry process, cheering someone on, or just offering a smile—can mean so much. It felt good to see how little moments can brighten cloudy days (literally).
2. Gumboot Throwing: Not My Thing
Let’s just say I’m more of a crafter than a gumboot thrower. Despite my enthusiastic attempt, the boot went rogue and almost took out someone’s snack. Maybe next year, I’ll stick to the crafts section where my boots are safe on my feet.
3. Family to the Rescue
When things didn’t go to plan (like the time glue decided it had other ideas for my craft), my family was right there to help. Whether it was running for tape, fixing last-minute disasters, or just being there with snacks and hugs, they proved that teamwork is our secret weapon.
4. You Can Do Anything if You Want
We weren’t even planning to enter the show this year, but at the last minute, we decided to go for it. And guess what? It was totally worth it. From making crafts to winning prizes to throwing gumboots badly, the whole experience reminded me that sometimes saying “yes” leads to the best adventures.
So, there you have it—the 2025 Kaikohe A&P Show through the eyes of a 12-year-old homeschooler/crafter/gumboot-throwing rookie. Whether we’re taking home trophies or just making memories, it’s always an unforgettable time with The Kiwi Connections.
